Funfetti Sugar Cookies
Hi friends! I’ve got a recipe for funfetti sugar cookies to share with you today. Funfetti cookies are sugar cookies all dressed up in sprinkles.
This is my go-to recipe for easy sugar cookies. They’re thick, chewy, and buttery. I think I’ve gained 5 pounds just looking at the pictures!
To chill or not to chill?
This recipe is perfect for a quick sugar cookie; the chill time is minimal. So if you choose to skip the chilling, the cookies will spread and be thin & chewy. Sometimes I just don’t have the patience for chilling and that’s okay! If that’s your fave, then go for it! Your cookies will still be delicious!
I’ve done it both ways, but if I have the time, I prefer the thicker cookies. I like to use about 1 1/2 tablespoons of dough for these cookies to make them nice and large. You can experiment with size to get the right cookie for you. This also works perfect with a 1/2 tablespoon size for a smaller cookie.
Sprinkles and more…
These cookies are delicious without sprinkles….but they are SO PRETTY and festive with them. Don’t be shy about covering the entire thing. More sprinkles!!! Use any color sprinkles you have to change up the look easily. I’ve used red white and blue for 4th of July, pastels for spring. Have fun with it!
If you don’t want to use sprinkles, rolling the cookies in plain or decorative sugar works too!
After rolling the dough into balls, you can also freeze these for later. I simply put the balls rolled in sugar onto a silicone lined baking sheet and stick in the freezer for a few hours until the cookies are frozen solid. Place in a freezer bag and you can have your funfetti cookies anytime you want!
Wouldn’t these be cute for a birthday party? Or you know…just any random night at home watching Gilmore girls re-runs. Yeah…that too. ๐
Okay so let’s get to the recipe, shall we? Hope y’all enjoy.
Funfetti Sugar Cookies
Ingredients
- 2 3/4 c all purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1 c butter softened
- 1 1/2 c sugar
- 1 egg
- 2 tsp vanilla
- 2-3 tbsp buttermilk or regular milk
- 1 bottle sprinkles
Instructions
- In a large bowl, or bowl of your stand mixer, cream the butter & sugar. Add in egg and vanilla until blended & mixture is fluffy.
- Add in the flour, baking soda & powder, and continue to mix on low until the dough comes together. The dough will be on the dry side, so add just enough buttermilk to give you a soft (not wet!!) mixture.
- Chill the dough for 10 minutes in the freezer or 30 minutes in the fridge.
- While the dough chills, preheat the oven to 375.
- Roll dough into balls, and then roll in a bowl of sprinkles.
- Bake for 8-10 minutes or until the sides are golden.
