Rainbow Bobble Blanket Pattern Review
This crochet rainbow bobble blanket is an easy and fun pattern from Khloe Kate’s.
You guys. This is my favorite make so far of 2021! I say this often, but it’s true every time. When you make things you love, everything becomes a favorite. And this blanket, it’s a treasure already. I plan to make a few more and can’t wait to make a larger lap sized blanket for myself, likely in this same colorway.
When I first saw this pattern in a crochet group on facebook a few months ago, I knew immediately that I had to make it. I purchased the pattern but the designer posted that she was updating the pattern, so I decided to wait to make it until the update was finished. A few of the commenters on the original noted that the border was a bit fiddly, so I’m glad I waited. As soon as it was released, I picked my yarns and got started.
I had way too much fun with this blanket. I enjoyed everything from deciding colors & the order, and stitching every row. There is enough variation that you don’t get bored with it and I love the bobble stitches. They’re so fun! This was a joy to make. Also it keeps you warm as it grows, and for someone who is forever freezing, this was a plus.
About the pattern:
This pattern is wonderfully written and very easy to follow. This could easily be an advanced beginner project. The only fancy stitching here is the bobble stitch. The pattern gives instructions but there are tons of youtube videos also if you’re a visual learner.
I’m not sure about the original pattern, but the updated border is easy to work and so pretty. I did not follow the instructions for the final row, instead opting to crochet in the front and back post stitches.
There are four color options to choose from: 2, 4, 7, or 14 colors. I made the 7 color version.

Tools you’ll need:
I hook 5.5 mm, worsted weight yarn, and stitch markers
Yarns used:
I used two brands: I love This Yarn and Yarn Bee Soft & Sleek, all from Hobby Lobby. Soft & Sleek is my favorite of the two. The yarn is so smooth to work with!
I know yarn snobs will turn up their nose at the mention of acrylic yarns, however, when it comes to making things for kids, I prefer acrylic for a few reasons.
- Affordability! My yarn costs for this blanket was around $31.00 without sale prices. Even better if you wait for HL’s frequent sales.
- No itching that comes with wool!
- Instead of handwashing (as is common with handmade items), this blanket can be washed normally in the washing machine.
Colors:
Border & beginning color: Ivory Tweed, I Love This Yarn
Rainbow (starting from inner color):
Blush, Yarn Bee Soft & Sleek
Light Gray, Yarn Bee Soft & Sleek
Mauve, Yarn Bee Soft & Sleek
Linen, I Love This Yarn
Rosy Cheeks, I Love This Yarn
Light Gray again
Spice, Yarn Bee Soft & Sleek
How long does it take to make a rainbow bobble blanket?
I started my blanket on June 24th and finished July 8th. If I had crocheted every day I could’ve finished quicker. This wasn’t a conversational project. Or it wasn’t for me. Meaning that I couldn’t carry on a conversation while stitching. I used my morning quiet time before the kids were awake for my most productive crocheting time.
